New To Cannabis - Finding your THC Tolerance

Whether you are tolerant of THC largely depends on your level of experience with cannabis.

THC tolerance refers to the amount you need to feel a desired effect. If you are new to cannabis you might want to follow the start low, go slow method to avoid feeling unwanted effects.

How much THC gets you high?

Tolerance will affect the experience of cannabis from very light to being heavily intoxicated. Depending on your level of tolerance, you can feel high from ingesting as little as 1mg of THC, if your tolerance is high you may need 10mg of THC to begin to feel high.

Cannabis Edibles

Consuming edibles is a great way to enjoy cannabis without smoking/ inhaling. It is quite easy to consume more than you may wish to and this can ruin your day. Edibles take a lot longer than smoking to be metabolized in your body and can take from 20 minutes to 4 hours to build up in your system.

Most cannabis edibles will have THC doses between 1mg - 10mg. If you are new to cannabis or want a lighter, more functional, experience start low, go slow - pitch your experience between 2.5mg-5mg across 24 hours.

Cannabis Flower

How much THC is in 1g of cannabis flower will depend on that specific plant. You can work out how many milligrams of THC are present by the % listed on the product label and the weight of cannabis you have.

Example: 1g of 15% THC cannabis:
Start by converting your weight from grams to milligrams:
1g = 1000mg
Multiply 1000 x 15% (or 1000 x 0.15)  = 150mg THC per 1g

Example: 3.5g of 22% THC cannabis:
Start by converting your weight from grams to milligrams:
3.5g = 3500mg
Multiply 3500 x 22% (or 3500 x 0.22)  = 770mg THC per 3.5g

When purchasing cannabis from a dispensary expect the flower to contain between 100mg (10%) THC and 350mg (35%) THC per gram. In 0.5g prerolls expect between 50mg and 175mg per joint. That’s equivalent to between 2.5mg and 8.75mg per puff. If new to cannabis, 1 or 2 inhalations will get you pretty high.

Enjoying cannabis is a lot like seasoning food, you can always add more but you can’t take away what you’ve already put it - start low, go slow, enjoy
