Meet the mother of all cannabinoids: CBG! Just when you thought you had mastered the ABCs of CBD and THC, here come three new letters to the alphabet soup of health and wellness.
CBG stands for Cannabigerol, and it’s the building block, or parent molecule, to all other cannabinoids. It can best be understood as CBD ++, or for the science-minded, can be thought of as a stem cell.
Thank you Mr. Hemp Flower for this very helpful graphic!
It is non-toxic, non-intoxicating, and non-addictive. Studies already show that it has strong anti-anxiety properties and is also a powerful antibiotic, effective even with the drug resistant bacteria MRSA.
It is rare to find in most cannabis plants. This remarkable compound is found in abundance in very young hemp plants, but then changes to become other cannabinoids as the plant grows.
Ongoing research points shows that CBG can potentially be therapeutic for a number of ailments including:
It also acts as an antibacterial agent, it stimulates brain cells and neuron growth, and can promote bone growth.
CBD vs CBG – which is right for you?
Both compounds have incredible versatility as therapeutic agents. Very few cannabis strains contain high levels of CBG which makes it rare compared to CBD.
It really comes down to what works best for you. Your body will likely feel the benefits of both but you may find one is your secret weapon. The dosage is where we see a difference. A moderate dose of CBD is defined as 15-25mg, where a moderate dose of CBG ranges from 5-25mg.
But why choose one when you can have both? When CBD and CBG are taken together, the benefits of the CBD last longer and are more pronounced. CBG also amplifies the other cannabinoids in full spectrum products. Now that’s a supportive mother for you!
Where to find CBG products?
A newer player to the research and product scene, CBG will be popping up in more and more products. oHHo is proud to be growing organic CBG plants with Chris George on the Outcast Acres farm in our home state of NY.
oHHo is excited to offer CBG in its newly launched Recovery Balm. With a 4:1 ratio of CBD to CBG, you can experience a full spectrum cannabis extract balm that combines St. John’s Wort, Peppermint and Camphor for cooling relief from pain, inflammation and more.
When applied topically through a balm, CBD (and now CBG!) interacts with the cannabinoid receptors in your skin, fighting pain and inflammation. Studies have shown that CBD accumulates in your tissues over time, so more regular use can lead to better results.
This makes it ideal for those who suffer from chronic pain. Just ask Dennis Kulesza, one of our farmers and CBD enthusiasts, who shared with us that CBD helped him avoid a full ankle replacement surgery.
It is a marathon, not a sprint!
Speaking of balms and more three letter powerhouses – singer and songwriter sensation SZA loves the oHHo Repair Balm (retails for $60).To quote: “MAGIC AND FAST ACTING. Please go get some if you suffer from any form of pain.” Thank you SZA!
