Tyrone Williams – Don’t Pump the Breaks

Tyrone Williams is a an essential fixture of Chinatown, NY. Owner of Manhattan’s premiere bike shop and innovator of a unique street style riding, Williams continues to shape the cultural landscape of BMX not only in the city, but all around the globe. Sandwiched in between the downtown hubs Kiki’s and Bacaro, Da Shop boasts one of the most vibrant atmospheres in the neighborhood. Between the swarms of BMX riders pipe-grinding and popping wheelies to cheffing up delicious BBQ (Tyrone’s jerk chicken is out of this world) , you’re always in for a show on Division Street. We had the chance to catch up with Williams one fine Sunday morning, read below.

How do you get into your zone?

I like to listen to different types of music while enjoying some herbs. Definitely some Yoga to get the mind and body feeling right.

Best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

Not quite sure…maybe, “just breathe,” or “don’t worry about it, everything will work out.”

Your ultimate go-to feel good song?

As of lately, it’s been “Monument” by Rygin King. He’s a reggae artist from Jamaica.

How do you unwind?

Yoga, music, herbs and some Good Food.

When life gives you lemons you….

Roll it out,  add some ingredients of my own, mix it up & make a nice blend.

What does happiness mean to you? How do you find your happy?

I’m not sure really but it feels like it’s coming soon…

Something along the lines of being able to take care of all my bills stress free and still have something left to do what’s necessary. Health in mind & body. Namaste.
